History

The Club began in 1939 on land purchased for employees of Carpet Trades and the site was called White Wickets.  In 1950 after the Second World War the site was finally reopened. Following amalgamation of Carpet Trades with Carpet Manufacturing Company  in 1962 the firm became known as Gilt Edge Carpets and in 1966 Gilt Edge Bowling Club was opened on its present site.  In 1994 membership was 120 men and 50 ladies.  Immediately prior to the Covid crisis membership remained steady at 70/80 men and 25/30 ladies.

Club members have had much success in County Competitions and have represented the County many times at National Competitions.

The Club has always supported the County Association hosting many inter-county games, competitive and friendly and also County finals.
